Kingston, Mar 8 (Prensa Latina) The
government of Jamaica will implement a national genre
and regulations politics against the sexual harassment
as part of a plan to reinforce the protection of
women.
Both initiatives were presented by
Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding, during a message
spread Tuesday in commemoration of the Women's
International Day.
"Despite the progress, many of
our wives still feel afflicted by daily challenges in
his homes, communities and working centers, which we
must minimize or eliminate ", said
Golding.
Golding took the chance to call the men
of this Caribbean island to accept their
responsibilities and treat the Jamaican women with the
respect they deserve.
"They are our wives, our
daughters, our mothers ... they are our sisters,
friends, we must hoard them ", he said.
"While we
celebrate a complete century of the International
Women's Day , let's proudly show the achievements and
the contributions of the female sector, not only in the
national territory, but at regional and international
level ", he said.
In his speech, the leader
remembered that Jamaica committed itself with the care
of this social sector with the signature of the
Convention on the Elimination of Any Form of
Discrimination against Women, in 1981.
Also he
quoted that the country also is a signatory of the
Inter-American Convention on Prevention, Punishment and
Eradication of Violence against Women, signed in
2005.
The boss of government congratulated the
Department of Youth, Sport and Culture, in charge of
matters of genre, on the work made in this
aspect.
The new regulations approved by the
Parliament will join to laws in force that penalize
incest, violations and other sexual
affronts. |
